The purpose of chorus is to assist all students:
♪ To develop and continue to develop the fundamental performance skills including tone, technique, and rhythm
♪ To demonstrate an understanding of a variety of ensemble concepts including balance, blend, intonation, melody, and accompaniment
♪ To use a variety of dynamics, articulations, and styles to convey expression through music
As a result of participation in chorus, it is also expected that students will grow in character, leadership, patience, cooperation, and self-discipline.
Your grade is based upon five factors: your attendance/effort and performance/concert attendance/written work. These are weighted the following way:
♪ 50% Attendance Chorus meets as a full ensemble, therefore your attendance and attention at each rehearsal is essential. Everyone begins the nine-weeks with an “A” in this category. Coming to class unprepared (without pencil, paper, and/or music) results in a lowering of that grade.
♪ Effort This includes your attempts to improve your singing based on the constructive comments of the director and your use of good rehearsal habits to help the entire chorus succeed.
♪ 50% Performance This grade will be obtained from occasional singing quizzes in class.
♪ Concert Attendance Attendance at performances is mandatory. I will only excuse concert attendance on a case-by-case basis if there is an extreme personal or family illness and you contact me. Not showing up will result in a grade deduction.
♪ Written Work This grade will be obtained from written homework and/or quizzes in class.
Above all, remember that chorus is a group endeavor and that each member is responsible for the success of the group. Be prepared, always give your very best effort, and let’s work together to make this chorus the best it can be!
