Warren Elementary School is off to a fantastic new school year! The transitions of the first few weeks have gone smoothly. Students are “getting in the groove” of being back in school by following the procedures and meeting the staff’s expectations! Congratulations students!

The Ohio Department of Education has named Warren Elementary School an EFFECTIVE school for the third consecutive year. Congratulations to the entire school community: staff, students, and parents! To recognize our students for their tremendous efforts in achieving an Effective rating, we will be hosting a “Celebrate Success” day on Friday, September 19, beginning at 1:30 in the afternoon. There will be special activities for the students, as well as free refreshments. Several members of the staff, along with the PTA and Student Council are organizing the event. Again congratulations to everyone for all of their hard work and effort. The rain date for our celebration will be Friday, October 3, 2008

Your child’s test results contributed to making the Warren Elementary an Effective school. Attached you will find a copy of those results. Students in grades 3-8 took the Ohio Assessment Tests in the spring of 2008. Please look over the results. The booklet, provided by the Ohio Department of Education, details your child’s individual scores as well as where your child stands in comparison to others within Warren Elementary, Warren Local School District, and the state of Ohio. If you have any questions pertaining to your child’s scores please do not hesitate to call either your child’s classroom teacher or myself.

Reminders and Notices:

The PTA is currently conducting their Fall Fundraiser. It began on Wednesday, August 27 and will continue until Monday, September 15. Students can participate in this fundraiser in order to receive free prizes and to help raise money for the PTA . You may ask, “How are the PTA monies used?” The PTA provides many things for the students at Warren Elementary such as: school calendar magnets, parent resource booklets, awards for classrooms, school celebrations, refreshments at school programs, and special purchases for particular school functions. Please encourage your student to sell items to family members and friends in support of the PTA .

When dropping your child off for school, please remember to travel in the far traffic lane and to drop him/her off at the end of the driveway. When picking your child up from school, it is not necessary to arrive before 3:35 . Students being picked-up from school will be escorted to the end of the driveway pick-up area as parents travel in the far traffic lane. For your child’s safety, we try to limit the adults roaming the area during dismissal time.

If your child is absent from school, please contact the school office to report the reason for the absence. Doctor’s notes need to be submitted to the office.

Breakfast is offered to all students at Warren Elementary. Breakfast is served from 8:45 – 9:05 each morning. The cost of breakfast is $.60 and $.30 for reduced. Students are not permitted to charge for the breakfast meal. If a child qualifies for free lunch, he/she also qualifies for free breakfast. Students being dropped off at school who wish to eat breakfast should report at 8:45 a.m. Students who ride the bus will go to the cafeteria when their bus arrives.

Delivery for the 2007-2008 Elementary Yearbook is expected the week of September 8, 2008 . A notice will be sent home the day before sales begin. If you preordered a book last spring, please bring in your receipt to pick up your copy. Yearbooks will be sold on a first-come-first-serve basis for $15.00. Copies will also be available in the high school library for any new freshmen.

Student Accomplishments: (If your child has done something outside of school, please let me know so I can include his/her accomplishments in the next edition “From the Principal’s Desk”.

ver the summer, Cecelia Tio won the children's division of the Parkersburg Art Center 10 region competition.
