In 1948 at Racine High School, the first marching band was put under
the direction of Mr. Barnard Krinke. Up to the early 1990's at Southern
High School, the band was very competitive in The O.M.E.A. (Ohio Music
Education Association) until 1987, and were very active in public
functions. Including The Sternwheel Regatta, Ohio University's
Homecoming Parade, as well as Pomeroy's annual Christmas parade.

Sadly, in 1993 the band had folded due to the
retirement of Mrs. Roberta
Maidens and was discontinued until 1999. Until Mr. Greg Vance
had put together a "Sideline Band" for home football games, and a Pep
Band for basketball games. Vance had left Southern in the spring of
2001. Jeanette Oldaker was hired to replace Vance, and had added

intended) and Mr. Ben Hagar, was hired as Oldaker's predecessor. Hagar's

"Land of 1000 Dances", and "Bohemian Rhapsody". Hager had taken the band
that year to participate in The Ohio University Homecoming Parade. As
well as, The Jackson Apple Festival, with Jessica Lynch as Parade
Marshall. Due to unnameable circumstances, Hagar was asked to resign as
director, and the administration had hired Ms. Patreece Beegle to
finish out the year.
